I do passionate book design
Since 2013, I have worked independently for various artists, publishing houses, and cultural institutions in the world of art books. After studying graphic design and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and Milan — graduating in 2011 — I spent two years at Kehrer Verlag, one of Germany's leading art book publishers.
My passion is making art books. I love the process of creating a book in close collaboration with artists and curators, shaping it into an outstanding object — in terms of layout, sequencing, and the choice of materials.
My approach to making books for artists is rooted in one simple belief: the artist's body of work shapes the book, not the other way around. The most important tool is, first and foremost, listening. A deep understanding of an artist's work makes it clear where the journey will go — and what is the best way to present that work and turn it into something truly remarkable.
I see bookmaking as a game of ping pong. At its best, it's a close and trusting partnership — where each person is the other's most honest critic and greatest ally at the same time. We work in tight collaboration, and in the end, the book becomes a shared creation. It's not about imposing decisions. It's a process in which, ideally, everyone involved learns from one another and contributes their own strengths toward a common vision. Only that leads to the best result. And that vision must remain flexible — open to where the work leads — without ever feeling like a series of compromises.
»Designing a book is a bit like assembling a puzzle. In the beginning, there are many loose pieces — and then, at some point, everything comes together, grows more defined, and suddenly makes perfect sense. That's a wonderful feeling.«
